Kharagpur to Cuttack. Full truck, signed consignment note, proof of delivery back.

§03Own fleet / market

Some of the trucks are ours. The rest we go and find.

RKM runs its own fleet out of the four branches. An own truck is the one we can commit to first, because the vehicle, the driver and the schedule are ours to move.

When the lane, the body type or the date is outside what the fleet can place, the vehicle is sourced from the market through brokers. The load runs on the same paperwork either way — consignment note raised by RKM, e-way bill against the consignment, trip sheet through transit, proof of delivery back to you.

Own fleet — vehicles held

Count and body mix, to be supplied by RKM.

Market vehicles

Sourced, not pretended.

Hired trucks are how a full load leaves on the day it was promised when the own fleet is committed elsewhere. RKM sources them through brokers and stays the party you booked with: the CN / LR is RKM’s, and so is the POD that comes back.

§04In the company’s voice

A truck that leaves without the e-way bill has not left.

§05Paperwork

The documents that travel with the load.

Four of them. Each one is issued by RKM against your consignment.

  • 01

    Consignment note (CN / LR)

  • 02

    E-way bill

  • 03

    Trip sheet

  • 04

    Proof of delivery (POD)

What each document covers

One line per document — when it is raised and when it reaches you. To be supplied by RKM.

§06How a movement runs

Indent to POD.

  1. 01

    Indent

You give the pickup, the drop, what is loading and the date the vehicle is wanted. Full truckload — the vehicle carries your consignment and nothing else.

  2. 02

    Vehicle placement

The branch places a truck from RKM's own fleet, or sources a market vehicle when the fleet cannot cover the lane, the body type or the date.

  3. 03

    Loading

The vehicle reports to the loading point. Open bodies are sheeted and roped after loading; containers are closed.

  4. 04

    Consignment note issued

The CN / LR is raised against the load — consignor, consignee, description, vehicle. It is the document the movement is run on.

  5. 05

    E-way bill raised

The e-way bill is generated for the consignment before the vehicle leaves.

  6. 06

    Transit

The run is recorded on the trip sheet.

  7. 07

    Delivery and POD

The consignee signs at unloading and the proof of delivery comes back to you.

§08Enquiry

Book a truck.

Give the dispatch desk the lane, the load and the date you want the vehicle placed. Fields marked * are the ones a clerk cannot raise an indent without.

Where this form sends

Not connected yet — RKM to supply the desk address. Until then the fields above are the checklist and the number to the right is the way through.

Calling works as well as the form. Have the lane, the body type and the date ready and the desk can tell you what can be placed.
